ADDICTIVENESS is not a word, but an ingrained quality in our lives since the beginning of time. When man first tasted sweet fruits, we were hooked. We were given this quality to be able to pack on pounds to survive the winters, but we have totally abused it,
Our addictiveness comes from ancient pathways, like the fight or flight pathway, to help us SURVIVE, THRIVE, and PROCREATE. These are the basic tasks of any organism leading to HIGHLY MOTIVATED BEHAVIOR.
The brain runs mostly on subconscious circuits (habits), to conserve brain energy. We all learn to Develop Good Circuits (Habits) to make life easier (drive, ride a bike, type), in our fast paced lifestyle. But, we also TEACH our BRAIN to develop BAD CIRCUITS (ADDICTIONS). which in spite of their negative consequences in our lives, we continue to repeat
. A baby born to a heroin addict will be born "habituated: but not "addicted", because addiction is not a passive accident, it involves decisions. This will be explained in detail later.
Our ADDICTIVENESS is affected by many aspects of our life and lifestyle, primarily by NUTRITION and our GUT MICROBIOME, also by sleep, thoughts, toxins, our ability to detoxify, stress, genetics, family, school and peer environment, movement, chronologic brain age, timing, neurotransmitters, ACES, how a person perceives their experiences and a sense of self, early labeling, etc.
A lot of food for thought and discussion.
